Meet Miss Niss
My name is Shana Nissenbaum and I have been at Trail since the 2015-2016 school year.
I grew up in the suburbs of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I went to undergrad at Penn State, where I earned my degree in elementary education. During a short stay in western NY, I earned my masters degree in literacy education. I have been teaching since 2005 in Pennsylvania, New York, Indiana, and Ohio. In my lack of free time, I run a local nonprofit called Women's Workshop Richmond. Our mission is to empower women through power tools.
This is a list of resources for families to use at home. The activities range from kindergarten to third grade levels. All of these activities will help struggling readers gain valuable skills.
A reminder about fluency (reading smoothly and with expression)- Rereading a text is the best way to gain fluency. Having your child read the same book or story over and over helps them build phonics skills and the confidence they need to read fluently.
