Principal's Letter to Families
Dear National Trail High School Families and Students,
I am honored to introduce myself as the new principal of National Trail High School. It’s a privilege to join such a dedicated school community, and I’m excited to partner with you in creating a thriving, supportive, and enriching environment for every student.
Over the past 16 years in education, I’ve served in a variety of roles that have shaped my commitment to student success—from social studies educator and building director, to head soccer coach and, most recently, Assistant Director of Adult Education at Warren County Career Center. I hold both a Bachelor’s in Secondary Education and a Master’s in Educational Leadership from the University of Cincinnati, and I bring with me a deep belief in the power of learning, leadership, and relationships.
As I step into this role, I’ve been reflecting on my “why”—the purpose behind my work. I believe every student deserves the opportunity to succeed. I believe we can innovate beyond “how it’s always been done.” And I believe strong leadership means creating more leaders—among staff, students, and within our school community.
My goal is to empower our talented staff, foster student voice through meaningful opportunities, and lead with transparency—especially around how we use data to inform decisions. I value collaboration and want every member of our school to feel heard, respected, and engaged.
In this first year, I aim to listen and learn: to understand how National Trail thrives, get to know our incredible staff and students, and be present—in classrooms, hallways, and at school events. Together, we will continue to promote academic excellence, open communication, and a safe, inclusive environment where all students are challenged and supported to reach their best.
To our students, know that your voice matters. To our families, know that your involvement makes a difference. I look forward to connecting with you and celebrating the journey ahead.
Yours in education,David Herring
Principal
